Description

The Brolm is a literary-interactive project built around layered storytelling with invented words. The reader enters a root story written entirely in nonce content words — syntactically valid English, but semantically opaque. Each nonce word is a portal: clicking it opens a sub-story that contextually illuminates the invented concept behind that word. Sub-stories contain nonce words at slightly lower density, each clickable to reveal further sub-stories, recursively, until the deepest stories become mostly intelligible English. Meaning is never pre-planned — it is discovered retroactively in the act of writing each expansion, mirroring how the reader constructs understanding through contextual exposure. The project grows weekly, with new story branches added over time. The web app includes an interactive story map, a searchable word atlas, a story index, and a stats dashboard tracking the project’s linguistic evolution. Conceived and authored in collaboration with Claude; the web application was built with Claude Code.
